CENTRAL, S.C.-- The University of Mobile women's basketball team defeated Southern States Athletic Conference foe Southern Wesleyan 62-59 Friday evening.
Mobile (4-5, 2-1) visits Emmanuel College Saturday at 2 pm.
Courtney Bayliss led the Lady Rams with 22 points on 10-of-16 shooting, while Briana Edwards added 14 points. Shontae Dillon finished with 8 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists.
Ashley Cooper tallied 26 points and 12 boards to lead the Lady Warriors.
Mobile out rebounded SWU 41-32 and finished with a 31% (4-13) to 17% (4-24) edge from 3-point range.
Southern Wesleyan jumped ahead 14-4 in the opening period, but the Lady Rams answered back by taking the next 12 points. Molly Speed started the run with a 3-pointer and Edwards capped it with a bucket. Mobile continued to push ahead, going on a 9-4 spurt, capped by a Dillon 3-ball. Mobile took a 34-26 lead into the break.
The Lady Rams never gave up that lead in the final half. SWU did not get within one possession until they scored to make it 62-59, but Mobile held on the rest of the way.
