MOBILE, Ala-- The University of Mobile women's basketball team took down visiting Birmingham Southern College 66-54 Tuesday evening at Pharr Gymnasium.
Mobile (6-6) hosts Tennessee Temple Thursday, Dec. 20 at 5:30 pm.
Deonica McCormick led Mobile with 22 points on 10-of-16 shooting, while Shontae Dillon added 10 points, 6 assists, 6 rebounds and 5 steals, and Shaunette Battle chipped in 10 points off the bench.
Alex Adams led the Panthers with 10 points and 9 boards.
Mobile out shot BSC 42% to 31% from the floor, while the Panthers held a 72% (13-18) to 39% (5-13) edge from the charity stripe.
The Panthers scored first 36 seconds into the game, and led 4-2, before Mobile went on a 15-2 run to grab a 17-6 lead with 15:08 to play in the half. Five different players scored in the run and Mobile never trailed again. The Panthers fought back to cut it to 29-27 with 3:23 to play in the opening period, but Mobile closed out the half on an 11-2 run to take a 40-29 lead into the break. Five different players scored in that run as well.
The Lady Rams started the final period by scoring the first five points, capped by a battle 3-ball to take a 45-29 lead with 17:39 to play. Over the next 12:32, the Lady Rams managed only one bucket and allowed the Panthers to trip the lead to 47-46. But, the Lady Rams regained their composure and finished 8-of-10 from the floor over the final 5:37 to hold on. McCormick finished with 10 points for the Lady Rams in that stretch.
