MOBILE, Ala-- The University of Mobile men's basketball team rallied for a 68-64 win over visiting Truett-McConnell Saturday evening in Southern States Athletic Conference action at Pharr Gym.
Mobile (9-5, 3-3) will visit Faulkner Jan. 10 at 7:30 pm.
The Rams' Kwame Beard was the lone player in double figures, finishing with 24 points on 8-of-14 shooting, while adding 8 rebounds. Chris Richardson and Kevin Calloway added 9 points apiece for Mobile.
The NAIA's 2nd-leading scorer, Anthony Dorsey, tallied 32 points on 16-of-28 shooting for the Bears.
Truett out shot Mobile 46% to 39% from the floor and 63% (10-16) to 58% (18-31) from the charity stripe. Mobile finished with a 43-30 rebounding edge overall and a 16-4 edge in offensive rebounds.
The teams traded leads through the first half of the opening period, before the Bears turned an 18-15 deficit into a 19-18 lead with 8:07 to play on a bucket from Dorsey. They pushed that lead to as many as 9 in the half before taking a seven-point lead into the break.
The Bears held that lead until 6:57 had ticked off the clock in the final half, when Beard scored to give the Rams a 44-43 advantage. After Dorsey retook the lead for the Bears 47-46 at the 10:52 mark, Mobile went on a 12-0 run over the next 4:50, with four points from Julien Sargent and the last two coming off made free throws from Marcus Polnett. The Bears kept coming down the stretch, but Mobile kept answering. The Bears cut it to 64-61 with 1:13 to play, but Mobile scored the next three off three free throws from Beard. Truett cut it to three with four ticks left, but Calloway went 1-of-2 from the line to ice the game with just-over one second to play.
