MONTGOMERY, Ala-- The University of Mobile women's basketball team fell 67-80 at 22nd-ranked Faulkner University Thursday evening in Southern States Athletic Conference action.
Mobile (8-8, 3-4) hosts Loyola University Saturday at 3 pm.
Briana Edwards led the Lady Rams with 20 points, while Molly Speed added 14 points on 4-of-6 shooting from 3-point range. Deonica McCormick finished with 8 points, 8 assists and 9 rebounds.
Christina Hayes led a trio of Lady Eagles in double figures with 21 points, while Brittney Carter added 19 points and 12 boards.
Faulkner out shot Mobile 43% (33-77) to 39% (26-66) from the floor and finished with a 37-27 edge in rebounds. Mobile held a 42% to 37% edge in 3-point shooting.
The opening half was closely-contested, as Mobile started out with a 6-2 lead thanks to six points from Edwards. Mobile pushed that lead to 17-11 at the 14:01 mark on a Speed 3-ball, but Faulkner answered with a 13-4 run over the next 5:35, capped by a pair of Hayes free throws, to take their first lead of the game. Mobile answered back to take a 26-24 lead, but Faulkner scored the next four to take the lead for good. Mobile went into the half trailing 37-33.
After UMobile cut the lead to 39-36 early in the half, the Eagles went on a 10-2 run to take their first double-digit lead of the game with 15 minutes remaining. Down 57-45 at the 11:11 mark, the Lady Rams scored the next six to pull with in six thanks to a pair of 3-pointers from Speed. But, Faulkner answered with a 6-1 spurt of their own to pull away.
