MOBILE, Ala-- The University of Mobile men's basketball team fell 50-57 to visiting Auburn-Montgomery in Southern States Athletic Conference action Thursday evening.
Mobile (11-8, 5-6) hosts Xavier University in non-conference play Monday at 7:30 pm.
Chris Richardson was the lone Ram to score in double figures at 11, while Julien Sargent added 8 points and 4 boards off the bench.
Quay Davis led a pair of Warhawks in double figures with 12 points to go along with 6 assists.
AUM out shot Mobile 42% to 39% from the field, 56% (5-9) to 31% (4-13) from 3-point range and 63% (12-19) to 46% (12-26) from the free throw line. Mobile went only 7-of-20 from the floor in the opening half, and hit 11-of-22 free throws in the final 20 minutes. Both teams finished with 22 turnovers and AUM had a 36-27 rebounding edge.
Mobile scored first in the game and pushed ahead to a 14-6 lead with 11:43 to play on a 3-point play from Cody Scott. With Mobile leading 17-12 with 9:33 to go, the Warhawks went on a 12-0 to cap the half. The Rams scored only three points over the final 11:53.
The Rams did not hit the 20-point mark until 2:28 had ticked off the clock in the final period. By that time, AUM had built a 31-19 lead. Mobile could not pull within one possession the rest of the way, pulling within 33-28 with 13:43 to play, but seeing the Warhawks answer with a 3-point play from Michael Acoff. A Kwame Beard free throw brought the Rams within six with 27 ticks left, but the Rams could only manage a missed free throw and turnover the rest of the way.
