Lady Rams Fall To 14th-Ranked Xavier

MOBILE, Ala-- The University of Mobile women's basketball team fell 58-76 to 14th-ranked Xavier University in non-conference action Monday evening.
Mobile (11-10, 6-6) hosts rival Spring Hill College Thursday at 5:30 pm.
Briana Edwards led the Lady Rams with 20 points and 8 rebounds, while Deonica McCormick finished with 17 points and 7 assists.
Mobile out shot the Gold Nuggets 44% to 39% from the floor, but Xavier held a 35% (6-17) to 20% (2-10) edge from the 3-point line and a 67% (18-27) to 58% (14-24) edge from the charity stripe. Mobile turned the ball over 23 times and was out-rebounded 43-28 overall and 25-13 on the offensive glass.
The Lady Rams started the game by building a 17-12 lead in the first 8:34, before the Gold Nuggets answered with a 14-0 run over the next 4:29 to build a 26-17 lead. Xavier took that nine-point advantage into the break, leading 36-27.
Early in the final half, the Lady Rams used an 8-0 spurt to pull within six with 14:39 to play on a bucket from McCormick, but Xavier again answered with an 11-2 run to take command at 59-44 with 12:18 to go. Mobile went 1-for-3 from the floor and had a pair of turnovers in the stretch. From there, Xavier maintained a double-digit lead, leading by as many as 18.
