Lady Rams Roll Past Badgers 61-51

MOBILE, Ala-- The University of Mobile women's basketball team took down rival Spring Hill College 61-51 in Southern States Athletic Conference action Thursday evening at Pharr Gym.

Mobile (12-10, 7-5) hosts Faulkner University Saturday at 2 pm.

The Lady Rams got 20 points, 7 boards and 4 assists from Deonica McCormick, Briana Edwards added 15 points, Lauren Bethly chipped in 12 off the bench and Courtney Bayliss finished with 11 points and 6 rebounds.

Sha Sha Buchanan was the lone Badger in double figures with 13 points.

Mobile held the Badgers to 28% from the floor and 15% from 3-point range, and the Lady Rams forced 23 turnovers.

The Lady Rams never led in the opening period, as the Badgers started the scoring, and then used a 6-0 surge to turn a 10-7 lead into a 16-7 advantage. Mobile continued to trail, down 24-16 with 2:52 to play, before using a 10-2 run to close the half and head into halftime tied at 26-26. Bayliss had a pair of 3-pointers in the run.

In the final half, the Lady Rams got their first lead of the game, when McCormick knocked down a pair of free throws 34 seconds into play to put Mobile ahead 28-26. The Lady Rams went on to score seven more points in the half until the Badgers got on the board, to make it 35-26 with 14:53 to play. The Badgers answered back to take a 38-37 lead with 11:22 to play, and then the teams traded buckets over the next 6:20, when the Lady Rams found themselves trailing 44-45 with 5:02 to play. McCormick answered with seven-straight points for Mobile to build a six-point lead, and then Mobile closed out the final 1:54 of the half on a 7-1 run to ice the game.
