NEW ORLEANS, La-- The University of Mobile baseball team used an eight-run 7th inning in the finale to finish off a doubleheader sweep over Loyola University Tuesday in a pair of seven-inning non-conference games. Mobile won the opener 6-4, followed by a 10-5 victory in the finale.
Mobile (4-1) visits Talladega for a three-game series this weekend, starting with a 1 pm game Friday.
Trailing 5-2 in the final inning of game two, the Rams sent 12 hitters to the plate, tallying eight runs on eight hits.
Michael Bruno, Ryan Parazine and Keith Shirah reached base to start the inning, with pinch runner Alec Raley scoring the first run of the frame. Justin Beck singled home the tying run, then with two outs, four-straight Rams recorded hits to score the final five runs, with Braxton Hamil singling home a pair and Bruno doubling home a pair.
Josh Hollingsworth picked up the win with 2 innings of perfect relief, following up 3 innings shutout relief from Jeff Price.
Parazine went 3-for-4 with two runs scored, Hamil went 2-for-4 with two runs and two RBI, and Curtis added a pair of hits.
In the opener, a trio of Mobile pitchers scattered 12 hits to limit the Wolf Pack to four runs, while the Rams' offense scored all six runs in the 3rd.
In that inning, 12 hitters stepped up to the dish, and Mobile scored six runs on seven hits, with four Wolf Pack errors aiding the cause. After a leadoff out, ten-straight Rams reached base, started by back-to-back-to-back singles from Jared Brannon, Austin Curtis and Braxton Hamil. Philip McDuffie produced a 2-run double, and was followed by a RBI-double from Payne Palmer and a RBI-single from Brady King.
Brannon and King finished with two hits apiece, while McDuffie finished 1-for-3 with two RBI.
Cole Vaughan picked up the win after giving up four runs on eight hits in 3 innings of relief, while Josh Hollingsworth worked a scoreless 7th for the save.
