Rams Fall By Nine To 19th-Ranked Crusaders

MOBILE, Ala-- The University of Mobile men's basketball team fell 58-67 to the 19th-ranked William Carey University Crusaders Saturday in Southern States Athletic Conference action.

Mobile (14-11, 7-8) hosts Belhaven University Thursday at 7:30 pm.

Brandon Morris led the Rams with 22 points on 9-of-16 shooting off the bench, while Cody Scott added 12 points and 8 rebounds off the bench.

Daron Bell led a trio of Crusaders in double figures with 20 points on 7-of-14 shooting.

William Carey out shot Mobile 47% to 42% from the field and 73% (19-26) to 57% (12-21) from the free throw line.

the Rams scored first on a bucket from Marcus Polnett 1:21 into the game, but the Crusaders got a pair of free throws from Bell 17 seconds later and then took the lead for good at the 17:14 mark on a score from Guy Payne. Trailing 12-19 with 8:40 to play, the Rams used a 6-0 spurt to pull within one on back-to-back buckets from Kevin Calloway, but William Carey answered right back with an 8-1 run to reclaim an eight-point lead. The Crusaders went on to push the lead to 31-21, before Mobile closed the half on a 7-1 run to be down only four heading into the break.

Kwame Beard started the second half with a bucket to bring Mobile within 32-30 with 19:43 to play, but the Crusaders again answered with a 10-0 run, going 4-for-4 from the floor and 2-for-2 from the charity stripe. The Rams answered right back with a 10-0 run of their own, getting four points from Scott to pull within 42-40 with 13:24 to play. The teams traded buckets over the next few minutes, as the Rams found themselves within 45-49 with 10:15 to go on a score from Morris. From there, the Crusaders went on a game-clinching 11-1 run over the next 5:47 to take a 14-point lead. Mobile went 0-for-6 from the floor in that run.
