UMobile Baseball Drops Pair To 3rd-Ranked Flames

CLEVELAND, Tenn-- The University of Mobile baseball team dropped a Southern States Athletic Conference doubleheader at 3rd-ranked Lee University Friday, losing 3-6 in the opener and 1-3 in the finale.

Mobile (5-4) and Lee (9-2) finish the series with a single game Saturday.

Shane Ikner took the loss in the opener after giving up six runs on eight hits in 3.2 innings of mound work. Myles Smith got the win for the Flames after giving up three runs on six hits in five innings of work.

Jared Brannon went 3-for-4 from the leadoff spot for Mobile, while Ryan Parazine finished 2-for-3 with one RBI.

Mark Silva went 3-for-3 with two runs scored for Lee, while Corey Davis finished 2-for-4.

Lee broke the game open with five runs on six hits in the 2nd inning. Five reached base and three scored after there were two outs. Trailing 6-0 heading to the 5th, Mobile tried to mount a comeback with three runs on four hits. Austin Curtis singled home Brannon to start the frame, and Keith Granger and Parazine added run-scoring hits.

Ryan Hines was the tough-luck loser in the finale, surrendering three runs on six hits in 6.1 innings of work. The lefty struck out 11 and walked four. Jose Samayoa picked up the win for Lee, holding Mobile to one run on seven hits, with seven strikeouts in six innings of work.

Philip McDuffie hit a solo homer for the Rams and Jacob Knowles went 2-for-4 from the DH spot.

Brady Renner went 3-for-4 from the top of the Lee order.

The Flames got on the board first with a solo homer in the 3rd inning, but McDuffie knotted the game at 1-1 with a leadoff bomb in the 5th. Samayoa bounced back to fan the next three.

A leadoff walk in the 7th proved to be Mobile's undoing as it led to a 2-out, 2-run double from Corey Davis.
