MOBILE, Ala-- The University of Mobile men's and women's basketball teams will close out the regular season at Spring Hill Saturday with postseason berths on the line.
Mobile's women (14-14, 8-9) will battle the Badgers (12-16, 7-10) at 5 pm to kick things off, with the winner getting a spot in the SSAC Tournament beginning Feb. 27.
Mobile, Loyola (11-14, 8-9) and Spring Hill are vying for the final two spots in the SSAC West. If Mobile and Loyola lose Saturday, the Lady Rams would get the 4th seed and Loyola would get the 5th spot. If Loyola wins and Mobile loses, Loyola would get the 4th seed and Spring Hill would get the 5th seed. If the Lady Rams win, they get the 4th seed regardless of what Loyola does.
Deonica McCormick leads Mobile with 14.3 points, 4.9 assists, 2.6 steals and 1.1 blocks per game.
Loyola's women are playing Auburn-Montgomery (20-8, 12-5).
The UMobile men (14-13, 7-10) battle the Badgers (4-24, 3-14) at 7 pm. The Rams need to win and have Belhaven (12-17, 8-9) lose to 21st-ranked Faulkner to get in the tournament. If that happens, the Rams would grab the 5th seed over the Blazers due to having a better divisional record.
Kwame Beard leads the Rams with 12.7 points, 5.6 rebounds and 1.8 steals per game. Chris Richardson averages 12.3 points per contest.
The men's and women's SSAC Tournaments take place Feb. 27 - March 2 at the Multiplex at Cramton Bowl in Montgomery, Ala.
The tiebreakers used are head-to-head, then divisional record, then head-to-head against all seeds within the division beginning with the highest seed.
