MOBILE, Ala-- The University of Mobile men's basketball team will open play at the 2012 SSAC Men's Basketball Tournament Wednesday, Feb. 27 at 4:15 against Truett-McConnell College. (Bracket
Mobile (15-13, 8-10) is the 5th seed in the West, while Truett-McConnell (7-22, 5-13) is the 4th seed in the East. The winner of the game will face 11th-ranked William Carey University Thursday at 6:15 pm.
The Rams hosted Truett Jan. 5 and picked up a 68-64 victory thanks to a 41-30 second half. Kwame Beard led the Rams with 24 points on 8-of-14 shooting and was the lone Ram in double figures. Anthony Dorsey tallied 32 points for the Bears. Mobile won the rebounding battle 43-30, won on the offensive boards 16-4 and took 15 more trips to the charity stripe than the visitors.
Kwame Beard leads the Rams with 12.5 points, 5.5 rebounds and 1.8 steals per game. Chris Richardson averages 12.3 points per contest.
Dorsey averages 25.8 points and .8 blocks per game to lead the Bears. He ranks 1st in the NAIA in scoring average and total scoring (748 points).
All games at the tournament are taking place at the Multiplex at Cramton Bowl.
