MONTGOMERY, Ala-- One year after failing to make the Southern States Athletic Conference Tournament, the University of Mobile women's basketball team advanced to the second round, where they fell 58-83 to 7th-ranked Lee University.
Mobile (16-15) sees its season come to an end, while Lee (27-2) stays alive in postseason play.
Briana Edwards led the Lady Rams with 18 points after going 7-of-10 from the charity stripe, while Courtney Bayliss chipped in 11 points on 5-of-10 shooting to go along with 4 assists.
Myriah Iles led a quartet of Lady Flames in double figures with 18 points, but Mobile did hold the SSAC Player of the Year Hollie German to 9 points on 1-of-13 shooting.
The Flames out shot Mobile 42% (10-24) to 29% (2-7) from the 3-point line and out-rebounded Mobile 45 to 23 overall and 19 to 9 on the offensive glass. Lee also held a 48% to 42% edge in field goal percentage.
A Leana Tajkov 3-point play and a Bayliss triple gave the Lady Rams a 6-0 lead to start the game, but with Mobile holding a 10-5 edge at the 15:41 mark, the Flames scored five-straight to tie it at 10-10. The teams traded points over the next eleven minutes, where the Lady Rams held a 25-25 lead with 3:44 to go on an Edwards basket. Iles scored for Lee of a German assist at the 2:51 mark to give the Flames the lead for good. Lee pushed its lead to 39-32 at the break.
Lee quickly put the game away in the final half, going on a 21-3 run over the opening 7:11. After missing three-straight 3-pointers to start the half, the Flames hit four-straight to cap the run. Mobile missed its first seven field goal attempts in the half.
