MOBILE, Ala-- The University of Mobile baseball team swept Saturday's doubleheader versus Loyola by scores of 4-1 and 13-2 to finish a sweep of the three-game Southern States Athletic Conference series at Jacobs Field.
Mobile (10-8, 4-5) will host Lyon College Wednesday for a noon doubleheader.
The Rams took game one behind a complete-game effort from Shane Ikner and ten hits from the lineup.
Ikner limited the Wolf Pack to one run on two walks and three hits in 7 innings of work while fanning a pair. Kevin Lindsey took the loss after giving up four runs on eight hits in 5 innings.
Jared Brannon went 2-for-4 from the leadoff spot, while Austin Curtis and Keith Granger each added a pair of hits and a RBI. Ryan Parazine finished 1-for-2 with one RBI.
The teams traded runs in the 2nd inning, and then Mobile put it away with a pair in the 5th and one in the 6th.
Curtis started the 5th inning rally with a one-out double and scored on Brannon's RBI-single to left-center. With two outs, Brannon swiped second and touched home on a run-scoring hit from Parazine. Curtis singled home Payne Palmer in the 6th inning to cap the scoring.
Mobile run-ruled the visitors in seven innings in the finale, scoring 13 runs on 13 hits.
Keith Granger led the way with a 4-for-4 performance at the dish, while Curtis, Keith Shirah and Braxton Hamil each added a pair of hits and two RBI. Alec Raley finished 1-for-1 with 2 RBI and Payne Palmer drove in one and scored a pair.
Corey Fountain worked all seven innings, limiting the Wolf Pack to one earned run on three hits and one walk with seven strikeouts.
With the score tied 2-2 after three, the Rams capitalized on three Loyola errors to plate seven runs in the 4th and break the game open. All three errors occurred within the first six hitters as the Rams put four runs on the board. Hamil had a 2-run double in the inning.
