MOBILE, Ala-- The University of Mobile baseball team crushed visiting Lyon College by scores of 6-0 and 15-7 in a pair of seven-inning non-conference games at Jacobs Field Wednesday afternoon.
Mobile (12-8) hosts Oklahoma Wesleyan for a three-game non-conference series this weekend, beginning with a single game Friday at 2 pm.
The Rams' lineup scored six runs on eleven hits to back a quartet of pitchers. Jacob Knowles got the win with two innings of shutout work, while Corey Fountain, Jeffrey Price and Chase Jordan followed to shut down the Scots.
The offense was paced by three hits from Justin Beck, two hits from Braxton Hamil and a homer and two RBI from Philip McDuffie.
Clinging to a 2-0 lead through four, the Rams broke it open with four runs on five hits in the 5th inning. McDuffie started that rally with his two-run bomb to right, and Alec Raley and Beck added RBIs for the Rams in the inning.
Game two saw the Rams tee off on five Lyon pitchers to score 15 runs on 23 hits. Cole Vaughan picked up the win by allowing only one unearned run on three hits in four innings of mound work, while fanning four.
Jared Brannon and Austin Curtis combined to go 8-for-9 with eight runs scored in the top two spots of the Mobile lineup, while Hamil finished with three hits and five RBI. Keith Shirah finished 3-for-4 with four RBI and Ryan Parazine, Payne Palmer, Michael Bruno and Parker Hollinghead each chipped in a pair of hits.
The Rams took command right away with a four-spot in the 1st and two more runs in the 2nd. Brannon, Curtis and Parazine singled to start the 1st. Hamil drove home the first run with a groundout, Shirah singled home one, and Bruno delivered a 2-run single.
In the 2nd, Brannon and Curtis again started off by getting on base, and Shirah and Palmer delivered run-scoring hits.
