GULF SHORES, Ala-- The 19th-ranked University of Mobile softball team run-ruled Georgia Gwinnett 9-0 in six innings Friday afternoon to open up pool play at the Gulf Coast Invitational.
Mobile (9-2) will face Freed-Hardeman at 5 pm and Blue Mountain at 7 pm today.
Alli Hall went the distance for the win, and the Mobile bats provided plenty of support with nine runs on ten hits. Hall worked six innings of two-hit shutout ball, striking out five and walking four.
Brittany Dunson led at the plate, going 3-for-3 with four runs and four RBI, while Korie Fontenot finished 2-for-3 with three RBI, Morgan Pence went 2-for-3 and Jordan Coleman added a solo home run.
After putting up a single tally to start the game, Mobile put up crooked numbers in the 3rd, 4th and 6th innings to run away.
Dunson started the 3rd with a double and scored on Fontenot's sac fly, and Coleman followed with her blast to left-center. In the 4th, the Lady Rams took advantage of three errors after two pop outs to start the inning. Dunson started the rally with a 2-run single, and later scored on an error.
The three-run 6th saw Dunson again produce a 2-run single, followed two batters later by a Fontenot RBI hit.
