Mobile Scores Late And Sweeps No. 18 Eagles

MOBILE, Ala-- The 19th-ranked University of Mobile softball team swept a doubleheader from 18th-ranked Central Methodist University Tuesday, winning by scores of 6-1 and 9-4 in non-conference action.

Mobile (12-5) heads to the William Carey Invitational Saturday to face LSU-Alexandria at 11 am and Embry-Riddle at 1 pm.

In the opener, Alli Hall pitched around six balls to limit the Eagles to one run on four hits while striking out five.

Brittany Dunson went 3-for-4 with two RBI at the leadoff spot and Jordan Coleman and Sarah Stuart each added a pair of hits for Mobile.

Mobile was shut down and trailing 1-0 through four innings, but the bats came to life in the 5th and 6th. The Lady Rams tied the game in the 5th, when Stuart reached on an infield single, swiped second, and scored on Dunson's RBI-single.

The Lady Rams then broke it open in the 6th with five runs on four hits. Coleman started the rally with a double, and then an error and back-to-back bunt singles started the onlsaught. Morgan Pence and Alexa Da Rosa forced home runs when they were hit by pitches and Dunson added a RBI-single.

Game two was much the same, as the Lady Rams' offense woke up late to pull away.

Kamaron Strickland scattered 10 hits and allowed four runs while fanning five to get the complete-game win.

Korie Fontenot went 2-for-3 with a home run and five RBI, Allie Luster finished with two hits and two RBI and Dunson finished 2-for-2 with two runs scored.

After jumping ahead 1-0 to start the game, Mobile gave up two in the 2nd, and the score stayed that way until late, when the Lady Rams plated four in each of the 5th and 6th innings.

The 5th inning rally started when Ashley Middleton bounced a one-out single up the middle. Fontenot stroked a two-run double to right-center and Luster singled home one.

In the 6th, Stuart started things off with a single. All four runs scored with two outs, starting with Stuart scoring on an error and ending with Fontenot's three-run blast to left.
