CLEVELAND, Ga-- The University of Mobile baseball team swept Truett-McConnell by scores of 3-1 and 9-2 Saturday in Southern States Athletic Conference action.
Mobile (17-9, 7-5) hosts Concordia-Selma Tuesday at 1 pm for a non-conference doubleheader.
In the opener, the Rams scored only three runs on 13 hits, but that was enough for Shane Ikner, who limited the Bears to one unearned tall on three hits in a compete-game effort. The righty fanned three and walked one.
Braxton Hamil continued his hot-hitting, going 3-for-3 with a home run and two RBI, while Jared Brannon and Ryan Parazine each added two hits at the dish.
The Rams scored first on a RBI-single from Hamil in the 3rd, and then added the eventual winning run in the 5th when Austin Curtis scored on a double play ball after reaching via error. Hamil homered to lead off the 7th to cap the scoring.
Mobile scored nine runs on 15 hits in the finale, with Brannon, Curtis and Neil Hudson producing three hits each. Hudson smacked a homer for the Rams. Hamil finished 2-for-5 with four RBI to extend his hitting streak to 13 games. He has multiple hits in all but one game in that stretch.
Jacob Knowles held the Bears to two runs on five hits and a walk in six innings of mound work to pick up the win. Josh Hollingsworth and Chase Jordan combined for three innings of shutout relief to finish out the game.
Mobile took control of the game right off the bat, with a pair of runs in the 1st and a four-run 2nd.
Brannon and Hamil singled in the 1st, and then came home to score on a RBI-single from Angelo Bruno and a sac fly from Parazine.
The 2nd started with a one-out walk to Payne Palmer and a two-run shot from Hudson. Then, Brannon, Curtis and Hamil went-back-to-back -to-back with singles, with Hamil driving in two.
