MOBILE, Ala-- The 21st-ranked University of Mobile softball team swept visiting Truett-McConnell College in Southern States Athletic Conference play Friday, run-ruling the Bears 8-0 in five innings in the opener and taking the final game 7-1.
Mobile (17-8, 2-2) hosts 3rd-ranked Lee University Saturday for a noon doubleheader.
Alli Hall picked up the win in the opener, holding the Bears to four hits in five innings of shutout ball while fanning six and walking one.
The bats gave her plenty to work with, with Jessica Palmer and Sarah Stuart combining to go 4-for-4 from the bottom two spots in the order, while Allie Luster and Alexa Da Rosa each drove in a pair of runs.
The big inning came in the 3rd, when Mobile plated five runs on five hits and an error. Palmer and Stuart singled to start the inning, and an error loaded the bags to set the stage. Da Rosa started the scoring with a 2-run hit, Luster doubled home a pair and Emily Vickrey capped the inning by singling home Luster.
Game two saw Kamaron Strickland get the win, as she held the Bears to one run on three hits in a complete-game effort. She fanned five and walked none.
Jordan Coleman led the way at the plate, going 2-for-4 with three RBI, while Brittany Dunson drove in a pair and Da Rosa added two more hits.
After scoring two in the 3rd, the Lady Rams scored five on five hits in the 4th to put the game away. Ashley Middleton and Palmer reached with one out to start the inning, and after the second out was recorded, Dunson, Da Rosa, Fontenot and Coleman all recorded hits to do the damage, with Coleman emptying the bases with a three-run double.
