Trio Named GCAC Players Of The Week

HATTIESBURG, Miss-- The Gulf Coast Athletic Conference released the GCAC Players of the Week awards for the week ending April 11, and the University of Mobile had three athletes honored.

Leslie Pickette was named GCAC Softball Pitcher of the Week, Jessica Palmer was named GCAC Softball Player of the Week and Maegan Rice was named GCAC Women's Golfer of the Week.

Pickette, a senior from Oxford, Ala., picked up both of Mobile's wins on the week. She went the distance with six strikeouts to beat 14th-ranked William Carey 4-1 to open the week. Pickette then limited Thomas University to one run on two hits in a 5-inning effort to cap her work.

Freshman Jessica Palmer hit .667 on the week (6-for-9) and drove in four runs. She went 1-3 in two games versus William Carey, and then went an impressive 5-6 against Thomas, with a pair of RBI in each contest. Her pinch-hit grounder in the opener versus William Carey turned into the game-winner, when the Lady Crusaders' 3rd baseman booted the ball to allow a pair of runs to score and break the 1-1 tie in the 6th.

Maegan Rice finished 5th individually at the Bash at the Beach in Daytona Beach, Fla. She shot an opening-round 80 and then rebounded with a tournament best 71 in the final round. The Lady Rams finished 9th as a team.
