MOBILE, Ala-- The University of Mobile spotted Spring Hill four runs in the 1st inning and rallied to win 6-5 in Gulf Coast Athletic Conference baseball action Friday at Mobile.
Mobile (19-26, 12-17) and Spring Hill (24-20, 13-14) finish the series with a doubleheader Saturday at 1 pm.
Chris Peacock picked up the win after allowing 3 earned runs on 8 hits in 7 innings. He struck out 4 and walked 4. John Ladnier picked up a 2-inning save, allowing only 1 hit and fanning 2. Joe Carter took the loss for Spring Hill after giving up 6 runs on 8 hits in 5 innings of work.
Travis Williamson finished 3-4 with a solo homer and two doubles, Cody Barber finished 1-2 with 3 RBI and a 2-run homer, and Brady King and Brad Sheffield each finished 2-3 for the Rams.
Ryan Cummings went 3-5 with a 2-run home run for the Badgers, while Kendell Carvin went 2-4 at the plate.
After two quick outs in the 1st inning, Brad Holstein was hit by a pitch and then Cummings followed with his 2-run bomb. A Mobile error then lead to two unearned runs and a 4-0 Spring Hill lead.
Mobile then cut the deficit to 4-2 with single tallies in the 2nd and 3rd. Barber had a RBI-groundout in the 2nd and Sheffield singled home Brady King in the 3rd. The Rams then capped their scoring with a 4-spot in the 4th.
Williamson started the inning with a solo blast into the trees, Cody Sanderson singled, and then Barber cranked a 2-run home run over the scoreboard. King finished the scoring by reaching on an infield single, and then moving around on a wild pitch, error and scoring on Justin Beck's grounder.
Spring Hill cut the deficit to 6-5 on Cummings' RBI-single, and loaded the bases with one out. But, Peacock kept the Rams ahead by getting a strikeout and groundout to leave the bases loaded.
