TUSCALOOSA, Ala-- The University of Mobile baseball team split a double header at NCAA II Stillman College Wednesday, dropping game one 5-6 and rebounding with a 10-4 win in the finale. Both games were 7 inning contests.
In the opener, the Rams lost a pair of leads, including allowing a pair of Stillman runs in the bottom of the 7th to lose the game. John Ladnier was tagged with the loss after allowing one unearned run in .1 innings of work, while Cameron White got the start and allowed 5 earned runs on 7 hits in 6 innings.
Cody Barber finished 2-4 with 4 RBI for the Rams, while Jake Halverson, Ben Negus and Brad Sheffield each added two hits.
Barber started the scoring with a 2-out, 2-run single in the top of the 1st inning, but Stillman rebounded with three runs over the 2nd and 3rd innings, and a solo tally in the 5th to take a 4-2 lead as Nick Bumstead held the Rams to 2 runs in 6 innings, while fanning 7. After a quick out to start the 7th, four straight Rams reached, with Barber providing a 2-run single to put Mobile up 5-4. But, in the bottom of the 7th, a leadoff walk, error and sac fly led to the winning tallies for Stillman.
Alan Butts got the win in the finale for Mobile after allowing 3 runs on 3 hits in 3.1 innings. Offensively, the Rams pounded out 12 hits, including 5 extra-base hits to pick up the 10-4 win. Travis Williamson finished 2-3 with 3 RBI, Ben Negus finished 2-4 with 2 RBI, Cody Barber finished 2-2 with 2 RBI and Brady King added 2 hits for Mobile.
Mobile again opened the scoring, tallying a run in the 1st on a RBI single from Barber to score Jake Halverson after he reached via error and swiped 2nd. Stillman answered in the bottom of the 2nd, but the Rams put the game away with a six-spot in the top of the 3rd as 9 players came to bat. Williamson and Negus provided 2-run doubles in the frame.
