Loyola Takes Series From Mobile

MOBILE, Ala-- The University of Mobile baseball team dropped the rubber match to Loyola 5-2 Sunday in Gulf Coast Athletic Conference play. Loyola takes the series 2-1.

Mobile (1-4, 1-4) visits Stillman College for a noon doubleheader Wednesday, Feb. 10.

Alex Wolf picked up the win for the Wolfpack with 7 innings of 2-run, 6-hit ball. He walked none and fanned none. Kevin Fontenot worked a perfect 9th for the save.

Jarrin Brister took the loss for Mobile after allowing 2 runs on 9 hits in 7 innings of work. Justin Beck finished 2-of-3 for Mobile, while Cameron White finished 1-for-4 with 1 RBI.

The Wolfpack pounded out 15 hits, including 3-hit performances from David McChesney and Tyler Duplantis. Fontenot and Brooks McMinn collected two hits apiece in the top two spots of the batting order.

A wild pitch from Brister gave Loyola the first run of the game with 2 outs in the 1st inning and the score stayed 1-0 in favor of the visitors through 5 innings.

Loyola used back-to-back singles and a stolen base to open the 6th with a run, but the Rams answered with their first run of the game in the bottom of the 6th when a 2-out double from Brad Sheffield put a runner at 3rd, and a balk from Wolf plated White.

After a scoreless 7th, the Wolfpack again struck with a 3-spot in the 8th to put the game away thanks to five singles from the first six hitters to step to the plate. A White RBI-single in the bottom of the 8th for Mobile capped the scoring.
