JACKSON, Miss-- The University of Mobile baseball team dropped a Gulf Coast Athletic Conference double header at Belhaven College to open the 2010 season Saturday. Belhaven took game one 6-3 and finished off the sweep with an 8-5 win in game two.
Mobile (0-2, 0-2) will host conference foe Loyola University for a three-game series beginning Friday, Feb. 5 at 2 pm.
Belhaven's Brandt Hinton picked up the win in the opener, throwing 6 innings of 1-run ball, while fanning 5 and walking 2. Michael Clay took the loss for Mobile after giving up 5 earned runs in 4.1 innings of work. Clay walked 6 and fanned 3.
Cameron White finished 1-3 with 2 RBI for Mobile, while Dustin Lee was 2-3 with 2 runs scored from the DH spot. Shawn Diel finished 2-3 for the Blazers.
In game two, Mobile committed 6 errors and Chris Peacock was tagged with the loss after giving up 3 earned runs on 6 hits in 3 innings of work. Peacock fanned 3 and walked 1. Ryan Kassab picked up the win for the Blazers with 5 innings of 2-run ball.
From the top two spots in the lineup, Drew Dillard and Jimmy Gilford led the way for Belhaven. Dillard finished 3-4 with 3 runs and 1 RBI, while Gilford finished 2-3 with 2 runs and 3 RBI. Cody Barber added a solo homer for Mobile, while Travis Williamson finished 2-3 with a solo homer.
