Lady Rams Fall At Home

MOBILE, Ala-- The University of Mobile women's basketball team fell 58-63 to Tougaloo College in Gulf Coast Athletic Conference action at Pharr Gym Thursday evening.
 
Mobile (12-8, 4-6) visits Loyola University-New Orleans Saturday, Feb. 6 at 5 pm.
 
Morgan Melancon led Mobile with 13 points, Davina Jefferson added 10 points and Alice Honnery finished with 7 points, 10 rebounds, 8 blocks and 5 assists.
 
Erica Grayson tallied 12 points and grabbed 18 rebounds for Tougaloo, while Shalenia Wilcher added 12 points and 6 assists.
 
Both teams struggled shooting the ball, with both shooting 33% from the field. Both also finished with 21 turnovers, but Tougaloo out rebounded Mobile 55-42, including grabbing 24 offensive boards.
 
The teams traded the lead eight times in the first 10:41 of the opening half until they were tied up 14-14. Over the next 5:15 the Lady Bulldogs went used nine Mobile missed field goals and three turnovers to go on a 12-2 run to build a 26-16 lead, capped by an Erin Wells bucket. Tougaloo held a 31-21 lead with 1:18 on the clock, but the Lady Rams tallied the final six points, with Alyssa Lane scoring back-to-back buckets to close out the half and send Mobile into the break down 31-27.
 
Tougaloo jumped out to a 42-29 lead in the second half and held a 53-43 lead with 6:08 remaining. Mobile used an 11-2 run over the next 3:06 to pull within 55-54 when Jefferson drilled a 3-ball. But, on the next trip down the court, Tougaloo's Shalenia Wilcher sank a pair of free throws to pull back ahead 57-54. Mobile pulled back within one on a 3-pointer from Melancon with 1:13 to play, but failed to score the rest of the way as Tougaloo went 4-for-4 from the charity stripe in the final minute.
