No. 2 APU Beats Mobile In Final 30 Seconds

ORANGE BEACH, Ala-- The University of Mobile women's soccer team battled NAIA No. 2 Azusa Pacific to a 1-1 tie for 89:30, but fell 2-1 on a goal with 30 seconds remaining on the clock on the final day of the University of Mobile Soccer Classic at the Orange Beach Sportsplex Saturday.

Azusa out-shot Mobile 32-5 in the game, but the Lady Rams put up a great fight. Mobile (3-5-1) will next play Monday, Oct. 5 at Reinhardt College at 1 pm (CST).

The Lady Cougars of APU scored first in the 60th minute when Theresa Broad took a pass from Rachael Harding and knocked it in top shelf. At the 73rd minute, Terri McCreadie headed home a cross from Christy Lachappelle to tie the game at 1-1.

The game stayed that way as Mobile's defense continued to hold strong as goal keeper Anna Maddox racked up 12 saves on the day. But, with just 30 seconds left on the clock Brittany Lane fed Theresa Broad past the Mobile defense. Maddox charged out to make the stop, but Broad side-stepped her and punched it in for the winning tally.

The game marks the third 2-1 loss against top NAIA teams for the Lady Rams, who previously lost to NAIA No. 5 Martin Methodist in overtime and No. 20 Auburn-Montgomery on the road.
