HATTIESBURG, Miss-- The University of Mobile women's soccer team improved to 1-0-1 on the season by thumping Warner Southern 4-0 Saturday evening in a neutral site game at William Carey University's field.
Mobile controlled tempo throughout with a 32-8 edge in shots and a 15-3 edge in shots on goal. True freshmen Missy Stovall and Christy Lachappelle accounted for all the scoring, finishing with two goals apiece to give them both three for the season. Lachappelle, Louise Arseneault and Terri McCreadie added assists in the game.
Stovall scored the opening goal 22 minutes in when she controlled a deep pass from Arseneault, turned and fired into the top corner to beat the keeper. Lachappelle added an unassisted goal to cap the first half scoring in the 39th minute.
The duo continued to put points on the board in the second half. Lachappelle found Stovall open in the box in the 58th minute for a blast, and then Lachappelle capped the scoring in the 65th minute when she took a feed from McCreadie, beat the defense into the box and knocked it in the far side.
Freshman Samantha Bird tallied 3 saves for the shutout.
