UM Finishes 5th At NAIA Qualifier; Rice Qualifies For Nationals

COLUMBUS, Ga-- The University of Mobile women's golf team ended the 2009-10 season with a 5th-place finish at the NAIA Unaffiliated Qualifier at Bull Creek Golf Club Tuesday. Senior Maegan Rice carded a 7-over 151 (78, 73) to win the event and qualify for the 2010 NAIA Women's Golf National Championships for the 4th-straight year.

Mobile qualified as a team in 2007 and 2008, and this is Rice's 2nd-straight year to qualify as an individual. She posted the best score in each round and won by eight strokes over Greta Lange from Shorter and Allyson Agee from Cumberland.

Shorter College won the tournament with a 96-over 672 (333, 339), while Mobile finished 5th with a 119-over 695 (351, 344).

Taylor Kirby finished in a tie for 18th overall after shooting a 34-over 178 (89, 89).

The 16th Annual NAIA Women's Golf National Championships will take place May 25-28 at Meadowbrook Municipal Golf Course in Rapid City, S.D.

COLUMBUS, Ga-- The 25th-ranked University of Mobile women's golf team is in 5th place after round one of the NAIA Unaffiliated Qualifier at Bull Creek Golf Club Monday.  Round 1 Results

The Lady Rams carded a 63-over 351 at the Par-72 course, while Shorter College leads the field with a 45-over 333. Spring Hill College sits two strokes back in 2nd place, while Bethel University is in 3rd with a 51-over 339.

Mobile's Maegan Rice is tied for 1st with Shorter's Catalina Olarte after shooting a 6-over 78. Rice carded a 38 on the front-nine and a 40 on the back-nine.

Taylor Kirby sits at 17-over 89 in 18th place, Abbie Harris and Mandy Eads are in 23rd after carding a pair of 92's and Taylor Lee shot 21-over 93 for Mobile.

Shea Bowers leads Spring Hill with an 8-over 80, including a 36 on the front-nine, while Shorter's Greta Lange is tied for 3rd with a 7-over 79.

The tournament will wrap up Tuesday, and the winner gets a spot at the 2010 NAIA National Championships May 25-28 at Meadowbrook Municipal Golf Course in Rapid City, S.D.
