UM Baseball Ready For GCAC Tournament

RIDGELAND, Miss-- The University of Mobile baseball team is finished with the 2010 regular season and will begin play at the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference Baseball Tournament May 6 at Smith-Wills Stadium in Ridgeland, Miss.

The tournament kicks off May 5 with a play-in game between the bottom two seeds Loyola University-New Orleans and Tougaloo College. Mobile will be the 5th seed in the field and face No. 2 seed and 12th-ranked LSU-Shreveport Thursday, May 6 at 2:30 pm.

LSUS has taken 5-of-6 from Mobile this year, with the Rams winning the first contest of the year 7-6 at home. Two games were decided by one run. The Pilots are 21-2 over the last 23 games.

The winner of the contest will face the William Carey-Spring Hill winner, while the loser will face the loser of Belhaven v. Loyola/Tougaloo.

The top four seeds are Belhaven, LSUS, William Carey and Spring Hill College. The tournament is double-elimination and the winner will get an automatic spot at one of the National Championship Opening Round Sites May 18-21. The NAIA World Series will take place May 28 - June 4.

Justin Beck leads Mobile with a .364 batting average, Brad Sheffield is hitting .337 with 37 runs scored and Travis Williamson has 9 home runs and 37 RBI. Chris Peacock has a team-high 6 wins.

Andrew Brouillette leads LSUS with a .436 batting average and 17 doubles, while Kevin Smith is hitting .382 with 70 RBI, 14 homers and 14 doubles. John James is 10-1 on the mound.
