SIOUX CITY, Iowa-- The University of Mobile volleyball team fell 0-3 (17-25, 22-25, 20-25) to No. 16 Taylor University in pool play action at the 2009 NAIA Volleyball National Championship Thursday.

The Lady Rams end the season with a 26-13 record as Taylor and Cal Baptist will advance from Mobile's pool to the single-elimination bracket Friday-Saturday.

Whitney Knight led Mobile with 10 kills, while Melody Tenney finished with 25 assists and 11 digs. Jackie Geile paced Taylor with 11 kills, while Kelsey Pritchard added 10 kills.

The Taylor Trojans out hit Mobile .260 to .027 and were hitting well over .300 for much of the match. Taylor finished with 10 more kills and 13 fewer attack errors.

The first set was all Taylor, as the Trojans scored the first four points and built a 12-4 lead. Taylor led by as much as 9 in the set.

Taylor jumped ahead 5-1 in the second set and never trailed. Down 15-9, Mobile went on a 7-1 run to tie things up at 16-16 behind three aces from Alyson Kovacs. But, the good run was immediately followed by a rough patch, as five straight Mobile attack errors pushed Taylor's advantage to 21-16. The Lady Rams battled back within 21-19 on a pair of Whitney Knight aces, but Taylor three of the next four points to hold on.

Mobile grabbed its first lead of the match with a 2-1 lead early in the final set, but Taylor scored the next four points to go ahead 5-2. The set stayed close from there, with Taylor clinging to a late 18-17 lead. The Trojans outscored Mobile 7-3 the rest of the way with help from three Lady Ram attack errors to finish it off.
