MONTGOMERY, Ala-- The University of Mobile volleyball team swept a pair of matches on day one of the SSAC Cross-Over Tournament at Faulkner University Friday.
The Lady Rams defeated Brenau 3-1 and then beat Columbia College in straight sets 25-19, 25-20, 25-21.
Alyson Kovacs led the way versus Bernau with 20 kills on a .383 attack percentage. Kelly Sherling added 11 kills and Erica Rath added 10 for Mobile, while Shea McBee hit .278. Katy McCollister led with 32 digs and 3 aces, while Meldoy Tenney finished with 32 assists and Kaylee McGrew added 28. Charlotte Stutts finished with 18 digs.
Against Columbia, seniors Kelly Sherling and Alyson Kovacs led the way with 10 and 8 kills, respectively. Christa Hicks added 8 kills and 12 digs, while Katy McCollister paced the defense with 19 digs. Disah Kolassiba added 5 kills and 4 blocks, while Melody Tenney and Kaylee McGrew split the setting duties with 16 and 12 assists, respectively.
Mobile held Columbia to a .009 attack percentage, and Columbia finished with 10 service errors and only 3 aces.
Mobile (2-1) will face Shorter University Saturday at 12:30 pm.
