Rams Slip Past #23 Hornets In 2OT

MOBILE, Ala-- Deshorn Brown's goal in the 108th minute gave the University of Mobile a 3-2 double-overtime victory over 23rd-ranked Southern Polytechnic State University Friday at the University of Mobile.

Mobile (3-1-1) returns to action at home Saturday at 7:30 versus 3rd-ranked Embry-Riddle University (Fla.).

With the game tied up at 2-2 and the clock winding down towards a tie, Brown danced through a pair of defenders and then beat Southern Poly goalkeeper Eric Ati to the ball, flicking the ball over the charging keeper into the back of the net.

The game started out with plenty of fireworks, as three goals were scored in a span of two minutes.

Southern Poly's Sean Grisham opened the scoring in the 8th minute, but just 40 seconds later, Brown fed Marc Joseph to tie it up for Mobile.

Then, in the 10th minute, Sam Blackburn put home a feed from Stephen Okai to give Mobile a 2-1 lead that they held until late in the second half.

The first 37 minutes of the second period were scoreless until Rani Alkoptan took a feed from Stephen Herget at the top of the 18-yard box and pushed the game to extra time.

Mobile's Jason Williams picked up the win in goal with 2 saves, while the Mobile defense limited Southern Poly to only 8 shots, including none in extra time.

Southern Poly goalkeeper Ati made 9 saves in the losing effort as Mobile took 25 shots, including 6 in overtime.
