MOBILE, Ala-- The University of Mobile volleyball team picked up a 3-0 (25-19, 25-20, 25-10) victory over visiting Xavier University-Louisiana in non-conference action Thursday evening at Pharr Gym.
Offensively, Mobile was led by Kelly Sherling with 14 kills and 4 aces, while Shea McBee tallied 7 kills on a .700 attack percentage and Alyson Kovacs finished with 6 kills and a .625 hitting percentage.
Charlotte Stutts led the team with 14 digs, Christa Hicks added 10 digs and Melody Tenney led with 18 assists.
Mobile out hit Xavier .325 to .065 as a team and finished with a 6-0 edge in blocks and an 8-5 edge in service aces.
The Lady Rams (5-2) return home Friday at 7:30 pm against Fisk University.
Xavier actually jumped ahead 5-0 in the opening set, but the Lady Rams rallied with seven straight points to go ahead 7-5 behind the serving of Christa Hicks. The teams jostled back and forth from there and traded leads until it was tied 17-17. From there, Mobile grabbed eight of the next ten points to win it 25-19.
Mobile trailed 5-4 early in the second set, but reeled off six of the next eight points to grab a 10-7 lead. The Lady Rams would never trail from there.
The final set was all Mobile after another early Xavier lead of 5-4. Mobile went on a 10-2 run to grab control, and then took the final nine points for the 25-10 victory.
