MOBILE, Ala-- The University of Mobile volleyball team won its 5th-straight match Saturday afternoon, defeating visiting Stillman College 3-0 (25-11, 25-13, 25-17).
The Lady Rams (7-2, 1-1) will host Southern States Athletic conference rival Loyola University Tuesday, Sept. 28 at 7:30 pm.
Mobile held the Lady Tigers to a .014 hitting percentage and hit .250 as a team. The Lady Rams also finished with 16 aces, led by six from setter Melody Tenney, who also led the team with 18 assists.
Christa Hicks paced Mobile with 9 kills on the offensive end, while adding 3 aces. Kelly Sherling put down 8 kills and added 4 aces and 7 digs to lead the team.
The opening set was all Mobile, as the Lady Rams jumped out to 6-1 and 12-4 leads. They stayed in control from there, putting it away with a late 7-0 run behind the serving of Tenney. Mobile out hit the visitors .333 to -.148 in the opening set.
In the second set, Mobile led 7-3 early, and then pulled away from a 15-10 score by taking 10 of the final 13 points.
Stillman actually led 7-4 early in the final set and then rallied again to tie it up 14-14 before Tenney served the Lady Rams to a 7-0 run to take control.
