JACKSON, Miss-- The University of Mobile volleyball team improved to 3-1 in SSAC West Division play with a 3-1 (25-17, 25-20, 15-25, 25-21) victory at Belhaven University Tuesday evening.
Kelly Sherling led the Lady Rams with 13 kills, while Shea McBee added 8 kills with a .278 hitting percentage. Kaylee McGrew led with 16 assists, while Melody Tenney added 15. Charlotte Stutts produced 4 aces, while Katy McCollister led with 11 digs.
Mobile hit only .071 as a team but served up 12 aces as a team to spark the win. The Lady Blazers hit .077 as a team and had 7 aces and 9 service errors, while racking up 11 team blocks.
Belhaven jumped out to a 5-1 lead in the opening set and led 9-8 when Mobile went on a 14-2 run to build a 22-11 lead. McCollister's serving sparked an 8-0 surge at the beginning of the run.
The Lady Rams started the second set with an 8-3 lead and then used an 8-0 run to balloon an 8-5 lead to 16-5 behind the serving of Stutts, who produced 3 aces in the run.
The Lady Blazers closed the gap to 2-1 by taking the third set. They used an 8-0 run of their own to break a 5-5 tie and then traded points to the end for the win.
Mobile trailed 6-4 early in the final set, but used a 13-2 run to take control.
The Lady Rams (9-5, 3-1) travel to Montgomery, Ala. for the Faulkner University Tournament Oct. 8-9. They battle Asbury Friday at 11:30 am.
