MONTGOMERY, Ala-- The University of Mobile volleyball team earned a split on day one of the Faulkner University Invitational by beating Martin Methodist 3-0 (25-20, 25-16, 25-15).
Sherling posted a team-leading 15 kills versus Martin Methodist and hit .433, while Alyson Kovacs hit .462 with 7 kills. Shea McBee and Katie Dowd each added 7 kills for Mobile.
Kaylee McGrew led with 19 assists, followed by Melody Tenney with 18, and Katy McCollister finished with 13 digs.
The Lady Rams hit an impressive .347 while limiting Martin Methodist to a .182 attack percentage. Mobile also held a 9-1 advantage in service aces and out blocked Martin Methodist 5-1.
Martin led 4-3 early in the opening set, but Mobile answered with a 7-0 run to take control of the set. In the second set, Mobile used a 6-0 and 5-0 run to take a 16-7 lead before cruising to the 25-16 win.
In the final set, Mobile broke away from an 11-10 lead with a 9-2 run and later took four of the last five points to clinch.
Mobile faces Southeastern Saturday at 11 am on the final day of the invitational.
