SAVANNAH, Ga-- The University of Mobile volleyball fell to SCAD 1-3 (25-22, 19-25, 20-25, 18-25) on the final day of the SCAD Invitational Saturday.
Kelly Sherling paced Mobile offensively with 20 kills and a .255 attack percentage, while Mobile hit only .065 as a team. Sherling added 10 digs and 3 blocks.
Alyson Kovacs finished with 8 kills for Mobile, Katy McCollister led with 15 digs, and Kaylee McGrew finished with 17 assists and 11 digs for the Lady Rams.
SCAD hit .246 as a team and dominated at the net with 15 team blocks, led by 7 blocks from Alex Shipley. That covered up 14 service errors. Jen Drouin and Olympia Haney each finished with 14 kills for SCAD.
The teams went back-and-forth in the opening set, and with the Lady Rams trailing 16-14, Mobile used three 3-0 runs the rest of the way to pull away, including three straight kills by Sherling to finish the set.
SCAD did not have a lead in the 2nd set until they made the score 11-10 on a 3-0 run, and they used three more such runs to take the match, including scoring six of the final nine points.
In the third set, SCAD used a 5-0 lead to take a 12-8 lead, and then when Mobile pulled within 13-11, the Lady Bees used another 4-0 lead to pull away, and Mobile never got closer than 3 the rest of the way.
Mobile never led in the final set, though three Sherling kills and a McGrew ace turned a 17-10 deficit into a 17-14 game, but errors the rest of the way kept SCAD in the lead.
