MOBILE, Ala-- Seventh-ranked William Carey University handed the 18th-ranked University of Mobile women's soccer team its first SSAC West Division loss in women's soccer action Tuesday evening at the University of Mobile, beating the Lady Rams 1-0.
Natalia Nino provided the game-winner for the Lady Crusaders in the 66th minute when Gemma Metcalfe passed her into the 18-yard box, and Nino went back post to beat the keeper.
Jackie DeNova finished with 5 saves in the shutout win for William Carey, while Lorna Brownlie made 5 saves for Mobile in the losing effort.
The Lady Rams out shot William Carey 13-8, but the Lady Crusaders finished with a 6-5 advantage in shots on target.
The loss snapped a three-game winning streak for Mobile and a six-game winning streak against NAIA competition. Nino's goal was the first goal allowed by Mobile in the last four contests and this was the first game Mobile's offense has been held scoreless since the third game of the season on Aug. 28.
Mobile (8-5-1, 2-1) next plays at Auburn-University Montgomery Oct. 26 at 11 am.
