MOBILE, Ala-- The University of Mobile volleyball team blanked Belhaven University 3-0 (25-15, 25-18, 25-20) in SSAC West Division action Friday at Pharr Gym.
Katie Dowd led Mobile with 12 kills and hit .409, Kelly Sherling added 11 kills and hit .556, Shea McBee put down 8 kills and hit .538, and Alyson Kovacs added 8 kills and hit .533 for Mobile. The Lady Rams hit an impressive .426 as a team, while holding Belhaven to a .204 attack percentage.
Melody Tenney led with 21 assists, while Kaylee McGrew added 16 assists. Sherling added 9 digs, while McBee and Dowd led the team with 4 blocks apiece. Mobile out blocked Belhaven 8-3 as a team.
In the first set, Mobile led 7-6 and then went on a 4-0 run to go ahead 11-6 behind the serving of Katy McCollister. Mobile continued to pull away, adding in a 5-1 and 4-1 run to finish off the set.
Belhaven had early control of the second set, with several leads, but Mobile rallied after trailing 10-9. Mobile took 10 of the next 13 points to go ahead 19-13 and cruised from there.
The final set saw Mobile rally from an early 8-1 deficit and slowly fought back to tie it up at 15-15. Mobile took its first lead of the set at 17-16 on a kill from Sherling, and then used a pair of 3-0 runs the rest of the way to finish the comeback and the sweep.
Mobile (13-12, 5-1) hosts Southern University at New Orleans Tuesday, Oct. 26 at 7:30 pm.
