HATTIESBURG, Miss-- The University of Mobile women's soccer team fell 2-0 to NAIA No. 4 in the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference Championship game Saturday afternoon.
The Lady Rams (8-9-1) will still move on to the unaffiliated tournament in Dallas, Texas beginning Tuesday, Nov. 10 with opponent and time to be determined. The tournament will have games Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday, with the winner advancing to the NAIA National Championship.
The first 80 minutes of the game were pretty uneventful with zeroes on the scoreboard, but the Lady Saders hit their stride in the final nine minutes.
In the 81st minute, Aimi Beresford headed home a corner kick from Victoria McDevitt to provide the game-winner. Then, with two seconds remaining, Jeana Gilbert got a loose ball took a couple of touches into the 18-yard box and found the back of the net to finish the scoring.
William Carey's Jackie DeNova grabbed 4 saves for the shutout, while Anna Maddox had 5 saves for Mobile.
The Lady Saders outshot Mobile 18-13 in the game.
