No. 18 Mobile Women Move To Top Of West Division Standings

MONTGOMERY, Ala-- The 18th-ranked University of Mobile women's soccer team held off Auburn University-Montgomery 3-2 in SSAC West Division road action Tuesday afternoon.

Mobile is 9-5-1 overall and currently sits atop the SSAC West Division standings with a 3-1 conference mark. William Carey sits in 2nd with a 2-0-1 conference ledge. This is important, as the opening round of the SSAC Conference Championship is held at the site of the highest seed Nov. 6.

The game was back and forth from the beginning, when Christy Lachappelle opened with an unassisted goal in the 8th minute, but AUM answered on a goal from Asta Fridriksdottir in the 22nd minute to knot it at 1-1.

Kassie Ruff gave Mobile a 2-1 lead heading into half time, when she scored off an assist from Lachappelle just four minutes after Fridriksdottir's goal.

Nine minutes into the final period, Margret Albertsdottir tied it up at 2-2 with a goal for AUM, but not to be outdone, Ruff notched her second goal of the game to win it in the 61st minute, with Lachappelle tallying another assist.

Mobile visits rival Spring Hill College Saturday, Oct. 10 at 1 pm to close out the regular season.
