JACKSON, Miss-- The University of Mobile women's soccer team defeated Belhaven College 1-0 in overtime to advance to the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference Tournament Finals Saturday at No. 1 seed William Carey University at 1 pm.
After the teams battled for 96 scoreless minutes, Christy Lachappelle scored the game-winner for Mobile (8-8-1) with Terri McCreadie picking up the assist on the play. McCreadie took the ball down the left side to the attacking-third, lofted a pass to Lachappelle on the far side of the 18-yard box, and Lachappelle took one touch and struck a left-footed shot inside the far post for the game-winner.
Anna Maddox recorded 3 saves to pick up the shutout in goal for Mobile. Belhaven outshot Mobile 13 to 9, but Mobile held a 5-3 edge in shots on target. Lachappelle now has 7 goals to go along with 6 assists on the season.
