Lady Rams Rally To Open 2010-11 With 68-60 Victory

JACKSON, Miss-- The University of Mobile women's basketball team opened the 2010-11 season by picking up a 68-60 road victory at non-conference foe Tougaloo College Monday.

Newcomer Allison Michael led the Lady Rams with 15 points, while Alyssa Lane chipped in 11 points on 4-of-7 shooting from the floor.

Alice Honnery picked up where she left off last season with 10 points, 17 rebounds and 5 blocks. Ten of those rebounds were offensive boards, as Mobile shot 34% from the floor. Adrienne Mackay added 10 points for Mobile.

Demara Bolton led Tougaloo with 20 points, while Victoria Jones finished with 15 points and 18 rebounds.

The Lady Rams led only briefly in the opening half, taking an early 2-1 lead on a pair of free throws from Lane, and then retaking the lead with 4:27 left after a 3-ball from Michael and a deuce from Mackay. That capped a 13-2 run that saw Mobile rally from a 9-point Tougaloo lead.

Tougaloo then took a 3-point lead into intermission thanks to a trio of buckets in the final 1:43.

The Lady Bulldogs led for the first 11 minutes of the second frame, but Mobile stepped up and took control of the game. After Akela White hit a pair of free throws to give Tougaloo a 48-43 lead with 10:58 left, Mobile scored seven of the next eight buckets to grab a 9-point lead. Mobile took the lead for good on Kyndra Davis' score with 8:42 remaining.

Mobile (1-0) visits University of Southern Mississippi Wednesday, Nov. 3 in an exhibition contest.
