NEW ORLEANS, La-- The University of Mobile volleyball team fell 0-3 (23-25, 23-25, 18-25) at SSAC West Division foe Loyola University Tuesday evening.
Mobile (15-13, 5-2) will visit rival Spring Hill Thursday at 7 pm with a chance to force a 3-way tie at the top of the division.
Kelly Sherling led Mobile with 11 kills, while Alyson Kovacs added 6. Mobile hit only .089 as a team, while the Wolfpack hit .214. Gina Gill led Loyola with 16 kills, Kailey Tuthill added 10 and Amanda Oldani finished with a game-high 19 digs.
Melody Tenney led Mobile with 19 assists, while Charlotte Stutts and Katy McCollister finished with 12 and 10 digs, respectively.
Mobile never led in the opening set, falling behind by as many as six points before Loyola took it 25-23. Mobile did rally to tie it 23-23, but a Gill kill and Mobile error finished it off.
In the second set, Mobile jumped ahead 4-0 thanks to a pair of kills from Katie Dowd. Mobile held that lead until Loyola took a 23-22 lead on a Mobile error, as the Wolfpack held on for good.
The final set was back-and-forth early until Loyola used a 6-0 run to take a 19-15 lead after trailing the Lady Rams 13-15. Loyola gave up only three points from there.
