KANSAS CITY, Mo-- The 11th-ranked University of Mobile women's soccer team is headed to the NAIA Women's Soccer National Tournament for the first time since 2000, and will host a 2010 Women's Soccer National Championship Opening Round contest Saturday, Nov. 20.
The Lady Rams, who qualified for the tournament by advancing to the SSAC Tournament Finals, will host Sun Conference member Embry-Riddle at 6 pm. The winner of that contest will host the winner of Lee University and Tennessee Wesleyan at the final site in Decatur, Ala., Nov. 29.
Embry-Riddle won the Sun Conference Tournament and sports a 14-2-3 record. The Lady Eagles are making their 7th trip to the National Tournament and are 1-6 all-time at nationals.
Mobile (12-6-1) is making the program's 5th trip to nationals and sports a 9-3 record and one National Championship all-time. Five other teams that have won national titles are also in the field of 32; Lee, Lindsey Wilson, Martin Methodist, Simon Fraser and Azusa Pacific.
Both teams will be familiar with each other as the teams did battle on Sept. 4 in Montgomery, with ERAU coming away with a 2-1 overtime victory.
Mobile out shot the Lady Eagles 17-6 in the game and put 7 shots on target, but only Christy Lachappelle's shot in the 54th minute found the back of the net. Martine Olsen scored twice for the Lady Eagles.
Embry-Riddle has only one loss in the last 18 games and they have allowed their opponent to score more than one goal only twice during that stretch.
The Lady Rams are 7-2 over the last nine games, with losses to ranked teams Lee and William Carey. Teams have scored more than one goal twice in the last nine contests against the Mobile defense.
