Mobile (17-9, 10-7) visits rival Spring Hill College Saturday at 7 pm to close out the regular season.

Kimbrough tallied 29 of his 39 points in the second half and set a couple of school records in the process. He finished 13-of-27 from the field, breaking the record for most field goals attempted in a single game (25, Larry Edwards, 1997) and finished 11-of-21 from the charity stripe, breaking the record for most free throws attempted (18, Gimel Lewis, 2003).

 

Donte Walker added 20 points for Mobile, hitting 9-of-11 from the free throw line, and Robert Golston finished with 16 points and 10 rebounds. Larell Bailey's 19 points led Belhaven.

 

Kimbrough was at his best down the stretch for Mobile. After Walker tallied five quick points on a 3-ball and a pair of free throws to put Mobile up 68-57 with 8:06 left, it turned into the Ji Kimbrough show. The redshirt freshman scored the next 13 points for the Rams until Walker hit another free throw with 43 seconds remaining. Kimbrough then finished the scoring for Mobile, hitting 3-of-4 from the charity stripe in the final 26 seconds to help close out the game.

 

During that run, the Blazers pulled within one twice, but each time Kimbrough had an answer. After a Rob Wallace bucket cut it to 70-69 Mobile, Kimbrough hit a jumper to make it 72-69, and then after Detrick Johnson sank a pair of free throws to cut the lead to 72-71, Kimbrough again knocked down a bucket to pull back to a 3-point lead.

 

Mobile grabbed a slim 41-38 lead after the opening 20 minutes of play and never trailed in the final half.

 

The Blazers led the majority of the opening period, grabbing a 7-4 lead with 17:47 left and building that up to a 32-20 lead with 7:38 remaining. From there, the Rams went on a 21-3 run to take a 41-35 lead. Marcus Polnett's 3-pointer during that run, put Mobile ahead 36-34 with 3:15 left. It was the Rams' first lead since leading 4-2 early.
