ROME, Ga-- The Shorter University Hawks topped the University of Mobile 69-48 in NAIA men's basketball action Saturday.
Mobile (4-3) will host Southeastern University Monday, Nov. 22 at 7:30 pm, while Shorter improves to 7-0 on the season.
Matthew Turner was the only Ram to produced double-digit scoring with 10 points and 7 rebounds, as the Rams shot only 28% from the floor. Brock Dockery added 9 points and 9 rebounds for Mobile, while Donte Walker chipped in 8 points. But, the two combined to shoot 6-of-22 from the field.
Shorter had four players finish with 10+ points. led by 19 points from Walter Hill and 15 from Marqise Wright.
Neither team was a factor from the charity stripe of the 3-point line, but Shorter shot 47% from the floor and held Mobile to a 16% effort in the opening half, while the Hawks built a 34-15 lead at the break.
In that opening half, Shorter built a 25-5 lead, as Mobile did not reach seven points until 12:08 had run off the clock, and the Rams did not get to double-digits until Bentley Hylton sank a 3-pointer with 3:48 left. By that time, Shorter had put 30 points on the board.
That first-half deficit was too much for Mobile to overcome, as the Hawks kept a double-digit advantage the rest of the way.
