MARIETTA, Ga-- The Life University Running Eagles topped the University of Mobile 96-80 in NAIA men's basketball action Saturday evening.
Mobile (7-5) will open up SSAC West Division play Thursday, Jan. 13 at 7:30 pm when William Carey University visits Pharr Gym.
The Rams turned the ball over 24 times and shot only 38% from the floor, including a 1-of-10 effort from 3-point range. Life, on the other hand, shot 48% from the floor and went 7-of-19 from deep. That shooting discrepancy offset Mobile's 54-29 rebounding edge in the game.
Offensively for Mobile, it was the dynamic duo of Ji Kimbrough and Donte Walker, and not much else. Walker poured in 23 points and grabbed 14 rebounds, while Kimbrough tallied 28 points with 7 rebounds. Nobody else on the team scored more than 6 points. Brock Dockery added 10 boards for Mobile.
Life's Tony Reese led all scorers with 29 points on 11-of-15 shooting.
Kimbrough opened the game by giving Mobile a 2-0 lead, but just five seconds later PJ Meyers sank a 3-pointer for Life and the Running Eagles never trailed after that. Mobile did tie the game at 12-12, but Life used a 14-2 run to take control.
The Rams trailed 44-31 at the break and could not make a run in the final period, as Life led by 20+ the majority of the half.
