#16 Xavier Slips Past Mobile Women

NEW ORLEANS, La-- The University of Mobile women's basketball team fell 47-48 to 16th-ranked Xavier University-Louisiana in road action Monday evening.

Mobile (11-4, 2-1) will return to SSAC West action Thursday, Jan. 27 at 5:30 pm when they host rival Spring Hill College. Xavier improves to 18-4 on the season.

Alice Honnery posted 14 points, 17 rebounds and 4 blocks in the post for the Lady Rams, but the team only shot 1-of-10 from 3-point range, as the next highest scorers were Alyssa Lane and Adrienne Mackay with 6 points apiece.

Christina Warren was Xavier's lone double-digit scorer with 10 points on 4-of-19 shooting, including 0-of-9 from 3-point range, as the team hit only 3-of-21 from behind the arc. Chelsea Broussard added 16 rebounds.

The Lady Rams built a 25-12 lead in the first period of play by holding Xavier to 15% shooting from the floor and 0-for-11 from behind the arc. But, in the 2nd half, Xavier shot 44% from the floor and forced 13 Mobile turnovers.

Mobile scored first in the final half to build a 27-12 lead with 18:06 to go, but Xavier finally got it's offense going and went on a 15-0 run over the next 4:03 as Mobile missed 5 shots and turned the ball over on four straight possessions to aide the run. Xavier took charge from there and grabbed a 36-30 lead, before Mobile answered back with an 8-1 run to grab a 38-37 advantage with 6:24 to play.

The teams traded points until Mobile held a 45-42 lead with 2:05 to play, but the Lady Rams hit only 3-of-6 from the charity stripe the rest of the way and Xavier grabbed the lead for good on a bucket from Angelica Alexander with 1:42 left. Mobile went to the free throw line down two with one tick left, but hit only one free throw to fall 48-47.
