Rams Best Badgers By Five In Rivalry Game

MOBILE, Ala-- The University of Mobile men's basketball team moved into a tie for 1st in the SSAC West Division by ousting rival Spring Hill 63-58 at Pharr Gym Thursday evening.

Mobile (10-9, 3-1) hosts Faulkner University Saturday, Jan. 29 at 4 pm. Spring Hill falls to 6-10 overall and 1-3 in SSAC West action.

Bentley Hylton led a trio of double-digit Ram scorers with 16 points on 5-of-6 shooting from the floor, along with 7 rebounds. Donte Walker added 14 points thanks to an 8-of-11 effort from the charity stripe and Brock Dockery added 12 points on 4-of-8 shooting from 3-point range.

Spring Hill's Steve Edwards led all scorers with 19 points on 6-of-18 shooting, while Charles Gordon added 11 points. Nick Brown finished with 8 points and 9 boards for the Badgers.

Mobile shot 39% for the game, compared to 38% for the Badgers, while the Rams finished 17-of-26 at the free throw line, compared to 11-of-15 for Spring Hill.

The Rams jumped out to a 13-5 lead in the first 4:56 of play thanks to 3-pointers from Docker and Hylton, but the Badgers quickly righted the ship and turned a 16-9 deficit into a 24-22 lead with 7:54 to play. The Rams then went 4:35 without a point and 6:45 without a field goal, as the Badgers grabbed a 28-22 lead. Mobile then closed with 3 points on a pair of free throws from Donte Walker, but the Badgers ended the half with 5-straight points thanks to a 3-ball from Tyler Schwab.

Spring Hill kept that lead in the final half until the Rams scored six-straight to grab a 48-46 lead thanks to a bucket from Hylton with 10:00 left. The teams traded buckets for the next minute until the Rams grabbed the lead for good at the 8:20 mark on a deuce from Spencer Duke to make it 51-50 after Nick Brown had given the Badgers a 50-49 lead just 33 seconds earlier. Spring Hill pulled within 53-52 with 6:21 left, but Walker answered with a pair of free throws, and the Rams held on the rest of the way.
